In which our hero has a different take on the GOAT’s message.
“I’ve made my share of mistakes along the way, but if I have changed even one life for the better, I haven’t lived in vain.”
– Muhammad Ali
I’ve helped others along the way. I intend to help more. Right now, the one life I’m working to change for the better is mine.
Self-care is how we stay healthy enough to take care of others. It’s an act of love. I fucked that all up, last few months. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
There’s a reason the first step in First Aid to assess the scene and decide if it’s safe to proceed. There’s a reason the flight attendants tell us to put the oxygen mask on ourselves before anyone else. I kept pushing through and putting others before me until I was a lunatic again. No more.
I’m going to prioritize my health so I can be the best version of me. I’m going to take care of my needs so I can be the parent my kids deserve, the husband my wife deserves, and the man I deserve to be.
I had to hit bottom before I remembered this lesson. Don’t do that. It’s dumb. Don’t be dumb. I got that covered. I’ve been dumb enough for both of us.
